Magha Puja:
Magha Puja is known as Dhamma Day.
Sunday, February 28
Several extraordinary events happened on the full moon day of the third lunar month
(called Magha in ancient India).
On that day 1,250 enlightened monks came together at the Bamboo Grove (Veluvana) to pay homage to the Buddha.
Those 1,250 monk disciples came together spontaneously. They were all Arahants.
The monks had all been ordained by the Buddha himself.
At that time, the Buddha gave a special sermon to the monks. He did this so that the monks would hear it, follow it, and pass those teachings on to future monks and to the lay people.
During the one-day retreat, we will be paying respect to the Buddha (The Great Teacher), the Dhamma (The Truth) and the Sangha (The community of those genuinely seeking the Truth), practising walking and sitting meditation in the Vipassana (Insight) Meditation tradition, and listening to a Dhamma talk on the Noble Eightfold Path.

Visakha Puja:
Visakha Puja is known as Buddha Day.
Friday, May 28
This is the most important day of the Buddhist year. It celebrates the birth, enlightenment and passing into Parinibbana of the Buddha. All three events are reputed to have happened on the full moon day of the lunar month of Visakha.
Asalaha Puja:
Asalaha Puja is known as Sangha Day.
Monday, July 26
Asalaha Puja is celebrated on the full-moon day of the eighth lunar month. It is a sacred day for Buddhists. On this day, the Lord Buddha gave his first sermon and one of his followers became the first Buddhist monk. The followers of the Buddha are together called the Sangha, and that is why Asalaha Puja is called 'Sangha Day'.
